ASSESSMENT

PART 1:

📍Online

With one or both Parents/Care-givers

Teenagers are welcome to attend

Younger Children do not need attend

⏱️ 90 minutes

🪙 €250 (includes Part 2)

What’s involved:

  • History taking - medical history of all relevant body systems; onset and progression of all symptoms

  • Social History- school, hobbies, sports, friends

  • Looking at barriers to activities of daily living, participation, exercise

  • Diagnostic Criteria: Discuss “MSK Involvement” and “Co- Morbidities” as per Diagnostic Criteria

  • After the session, I will send relevant Questionnaires to better capture the symptoms/difficulties you describe

  • Also after the session I will review all medical reports to date that you wish to share

  • I will create a PDF of this Medical History and share with you

  • This can be shared with any health professionals already involved in your child's care, if you wish.

  • It can also be shared going forward with any new healthcare professionals you may see over time - in this way it can serve as useful preparation for appointments.

  • On completion of this session we will arrange to meet in clinic - barefootphysio, Model Farm Road. Cork.

Child/Teen plus one or both Parents/Care-givers⏱️ 45 minutes

PART 2:

What’s involved:

  • Completion of Diagnostic Criteria : Assess Beighton Score and Skin Features as per Diagnostic Criteria

  • Chart whole body Range of Movement - this is because sometimes joints not included in the Beighton Score may be Hypermobile.

  • Other “tests” depending on the individual history e.g. Heart Rate/BP for suspected POTS.

  • At the end of this session I will be able to form the Clinical Assessment.

  • That means we will discuss what criteria your child meets in terms of the Diagnostic Criteria

  • We will also discuss whether or not your child needs to be seen by a Paediatrician or Paediatric Rheumatologist.

MANAGEMENT

If you wish to continue the journey from Assessment to Management the next step is:

FEEDBACK SESSION

📍Online (with one or both Parents/Care-givers) ⏱️ 90 minutes 🪙 €150

What’s involved:

  • Recap on the Clinical Assessment - where your child sits in terms of Diagnostic Criteria

  • Education: Background knowledge needed to understand your child's individual symptoms eg introductory knowledge about the nervous system, the gut, pain, fatigue, sleep and how Hypermobility is influencing what your child is experiencing

  • Prioritizing the symptoms we work with - what work needs to be done first, next, etc.

  • Discuss the need for any onward referrals (e.g. some children may need to be seen by a Paediatrician or Occupational Therapist)

  • Discuss the need for any communication with school or other adults involved in your child's hobbies or sports

Followed by (optional):

ONGOING 1:1 MANAGEMENT

  • Continuing the work set out in the Feedback Session at a pace that works for your family.

  • A mixture of online and in person

  • A mixture of Parent-only sessions and Child/Parent sessions

What’s involved:

This is an Introductory session for parents/guardians who are new to Hypermobility. It may be that you suspect your child is hypermobile or you have had an accurate diagnosis, and wish to learn more.

Feel free to prepare any questions in advance. Please note this session is not a substitute for an accurate assessment.
